17 Years at Sunrise of Frognal

One of the reasons why Sunrise of Frognal is more than just a care home, is the team of people working there to ensure that residents feel right at home. Every day, Sunrise of Frognal’s team members work to provide first class care that is dedicated to enhancing quality of life.

As part of this, Sunrise of Frognal is always eager to recognise the achievements of long-standing team members. Patricia Green is just one team member whose inspiring career story is worth sharing:

Patricia, or Pat as she is fondly known as by fellow team members and residents, started her work life at Sunrise as a carer nearly 17 years ago. Her efforts saw her soon promoted to the role of a lead carer, which allowed her to develop her skills and determination to provide effective care even further.

Part of Pat’s responsibilities have included directly caring for residents and leading the morning shifts for 12 years. “I’ve never had any regrets working here at Sunrise,” Pat says.

A few years ago, Pat was diagnosed with a brain tumour but was determined to work at Sunrise as much as she could around her illness. In order to allow her to still be a part of Sunrise, Pat was offered a position at the concierge desk. This came with lighter duties and enabled Pat to still enjoy working alongside the residents.

Although her role may have changed, Pat’s passion for care remains the same. Pat says she greatly enjoys her working day, especially meeting and greeting residents, family, friends and members of the public. Every single day, Pat sorts the mail for residents and hands out their daily newspapers. Her efforts ensure that she is truly at the heart of the Sunrise of Frognal community and is always a welcoming voice on the phone.

Reflecting on her role, Pat says, “I just love coming to work here every day and making everyone happy. I have one of the best jobs here and I find everyone interesting.” Thinking about her favourite memories of the community, Pat says these are definitely going out on bus trips with the residents. “I am so happy when I see all of the residents smiling and remarking on what a smashing day they have had.”

Other fond memories for Pat include working out on the floor with all of the girls in the care team. It was during these times that Pat was told the story about the history of Frognal House, including how it was made into a hospital for burns victims during WWI. Pat has shared this story amongst the community, including how those that were treated there called themselves the Penguin Club, along with an old photo of some of the patients that Frognal House still has to this day.

Sunrise of Frognal House is proud to call Pat a member of its team and, like Pat, looks forward to seeing her continue to be a friendly face and support the community in its mission to meet the needs of all residents.
