Sunrise of Bassett Residents Win “Seeds of Change” Competition, Donating £100 Prize to The Alzheimer’s Society
Sunrise of Bassett residents participated in the “Seeds of Change” competition. The competition was initiated by Michael and Janice Hawkins, owners of a local Home Care Removal company.
At the beginning of the UK Lockdown in mid-March, Home Care Removals sent a pack of sunflower seeds to local care homes. The competition was to see who could grow the best sunflowers over the spring and summer months.
Gosia Sokolska, Activities Coordinator at Sunrise of Bassett assisted residents with planting the seeds and over the past few months they have all been taking great care of the sunflower.
Residents’ hard work paid off, as they won the Seeds of Change competition. Their prize was a £100 donation to a charity of their choice. Sunrise of Bassett have decided to donate their winnings to the Alzheimer’s Society.
This donation will be used by the Alzheimer’s Society to support people living with dementia in accessing the help and advice they need through their Dementia Connect support line. During the current Covid-19 pandemic, telephone-based services are more important than ever.
Santa Bukovska, Director of Community Relations at Sunrise of Bassett, said:
“Thank you to Home Care Removals for initiating this competition. It has been great fun and a really rewarding activity for all the residents involved.
“They are all so proud of our sunflower that is displayed outside Sunrise of Bassett. Well done to everyone. It is also wonderful to be able to use our winnings to support such a worthwhile cause.”
