Sunrise of Solihull Resident Celebrates 106th Birthday

Sunrise  |  November 26, 2019

Team members at Sunrise of Solihull celebrated with resident Jack Roberts as he turned 106 years old.

Jack was delighted as the team surprised him with personalised balloons, a cake and bubbly to mark his special day on 20th November. He even received a birthday card from the Queen.

Jack has been living at the care community, which provides personalised dementia care and assisted living services, since July 2018. He moved to Sunrise with his wife of over 73 years Iris after previously living in Earlswood, Shirley and Kings Heath, Birmingham. Jack has a daughter Jean who visits often from Spain, where she lives with her family.

He has lived an active and interesting life over his 106 years, having once pursued a career in the car industry and activities including horse riding, rollerblading and ice-skating for many years and became an ice-skating judge. He and Iris were also keen walkers, competed in ballroom and Latin American dancing competitions and played golf.

Jo Hopkins, Director of Community Relations, said:

“Jack and Iris have been valued members of our community since July 2018 and we feel very lucky to share such a wonderful occasion with them. It was lovely to surprise Jack with our celebrations and we look forward to seeing him continue to enjoy life at Sunrise of Solihull.”
