Sunrise of Frognal Residents Celebrate Diamond Anniversary
Team members at Sunrise of Frognal were delighted to help residents Iain and Audrey Avery celebrate their very special Diamond wedding anniversary.
The couple married in 1959 in Bexleyheath – Audrey had grown up in the area and attended school in Dartford, whilst Iain grew up in Dartford and moved to Bexleyheath in 1957. They met through a Young Conservatives group, where Iain was President and Audrey was on the committee. After Audrey went on a family holiday to Spain, she visited a nearby villa where the group was staying and met Iain for the very first time. After they married, Iain worked as a surveyor, with Audrey often driving him around the countryside.
Together, the couple have welcomed two sons, a grandson and a granddaughter, and say their top tip for a long and happy marriage is to never go to bed angry at each other. Audrey says that Iain is extremely reliable and trustworthy, whilst Iain loves how caring and understanding his wife is. To young people, the couple’s advice is to never take marriage or commitment lightly.
At Sunrise, Iain and Audrey enjoy taking a walk where they can. Both used to be part of the rambling society and went on many big walks and walking holidays. The couple say their favourite thing about Sunrise is the food!
Nicola Winter, Activities and Volunteers Coordinator at Sunrise of Frognal said,
“It was an honour for all of us at Sunrise to celebrate Iain and Audrey’s special day with them. They are such wonderful and valued members of our community and it is lovely to see just how much love they still have for each other.”
