Lucy Jesse is Director of Community Relations at Sunrise of Fleet, she is celebrating 10 years of service at the care home.

Lucy’s first job was working at Boots when she was 17 years old. She discovered from this job she really enjoyed working as part of a wider team, helping customers, and building strong relationships with them. After this, Lucy got her first job in the care sector. She looked after adults with learning difficulties, supporting them with all aspects of day to day life, as well as participating in various activities.

Lucy had a few years’ experience in a more administrative non-care related role. She soon felt she was drawn to the care sector and helping people, which is when Lucy joined Sunrise of Fleet.

She joined the team at the care home on 19 July 2010, as a lead care worker and medication technician. After four years, she found she loved partaking in activities with the residents. Lucy then took on the role of Activities Coordinator, she said:

“I jumped at the chance to become Activities Coordinator, at this point, Sunrise of Fleet had become my second home. I absolutely loved being able to ensure all the residents had a meaningful day, every day.

“I worked with a fantastic team of activity assistants who made it possible for all the residents to enjoy such a vast array of activities catered to their needs and wishes.”

Lucy has now been working as Director of Community Relations for 18 months. She explained:

“This role is a dream come true. From day one at Sunrise of Fleet this has been my aspiration, I am so happy I persevered. I am the first point of call for families and friends supporting their loved ones move into the home. I think it really puts people at ease when they hear I have been working here for this long, with a background in care as well."

Lucy says that the most satisfying part of her job is seeing a new resident move into Sunrise of Fleet and watching them flourish in the home. She added:

“I take so much pride in showing people around Sunrise of Fleet. I have made so many good friends while working here and I am always supported in my role by the rest of the team. There is always someone you can go to for help and advice- we are like family.

“All of the Management Team at Sunrise of Fleet, like me, started their journey here as carers. We are a solid structure, and we work together smoothly like cogs in a clock.

“Here’s to the next 10 years!”
