Meet Sunrise of Bassett Resident and Author, Elizabeth
This is Sunrise of Bassett resident, Elizabeth, who is 96 years old. Her journey in life has been a little different to others.
In early 2000, she decided to write a book called ‘A ZigZag Path’ – a mini biography. In the book she talks about her childhood and adulthood and what she has been through.
Here is the gripping synopsis from Elizabeth’s book:
Elizabeth Bowtell’s peaceful childhood involved rummaging through sea-shore rock pools and wandering the narrow alleys of Cornish fishing ports.
Her tale begins and ends in Padstow but the zigzag path she followed though life led her through Blitz, to RAF Bomber Stations, Military Intelligence, and to Paris soon after the guns fell silent. A civilian once more, she found work in a large London hotel where she rose to Head Housekeeper, before moving on to a new job at Harrods, eventually achieving the rank of department buyer.
With tears and laughter, Elizabeth reflects on her life’s joys and hardships, her patriotic duty, loyalty, and honesty and discovery of love.’
"I moved to Sunrise of Bassett in December 2017. I felt I needed a place to relax and forget about my worries, whilst getting the help I need to have a better, valued life. I love it here.”
