Natalie-Jane Macdonald, CEO

Natalie-Jane joined Sunrise Senior Living UK and Gracewell Healthcare in June 2017. She has over 30 years’ experience in healthcare related B2B, B2C and B2G businesses, operating in highly regulated environments.  She is also Chairman of Nuffield Health, the UK’s largest healthcare charity and she became a Non-Executive Director at Riverstone Living in July 2020.

Natalie-Jane began her career as a physician, working in acute medicine and in clinical research at the Department of Medicine of Glasgow University.  She left clinical practice to join the BMA as head of medical ethics, before moving to Bupa where she spent 15 years in a variety of roles, latterly as Managing Director of the UK division, in which she led the Private Medical Insurance and related businesses.  She joined Acorn Care and Education in 2013, a children’s services business, where she led organic and acquisitive growth, and a sale of the business in late 2017 to NFA group.  She has previously held non-executive roles at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and the Private Health Information Network (PHIN).

Annie Webber, Senior Director of Care and Quality

Annie joined Sunrise Senior Living UK and Gracewell Healthcare in July 2019. Prior to joining the organisation, she worked at Methodist Homes MHA for over five years as Director of Quality, Lead Nurse and Safeguarding Officer. Annie started her career in nursing in the late 1970s, first training in NHS Wales and then qualifying as a State Registered nurse. After two years of consolidating her general nurse training, she then started a qualification in Midwifery. After completing her training, Annie joined the Army as a dual qualified nurse and was commissioned into the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nurse Corps. Annie says that the clinical work required to support the business is fundamental to safety, regulation, compliance, effectiveness and promotion of health and wellbeing, and this is just part of what her role entails.

Nick Crossland, Senior Director of Operations & Sales

Nick joined Sunrise Senior Living UK and Gracewell Healthcare in February 2019. Prior to joining the organisation, Nick was Head of Customer Service and a Director at Bupa before working as Customer Services Director at Mitie, the UK's leading facilities management and professional services company. At Sunrise and Gracewell, Nick’s role focuses on the day-to-day running of the care homes. He ensures residents are well looked after and that the correct processes and procedures are in place to enable team members to deliver the best possible care they can. Nick loves the ever-changing challenges that come his way. He says he works with dedicated and passionate colleagues supporting him.

Sharon Benson, Senior Director of Human Resources

Sharon started at Sunrise Senior Living UK and Gracewell Healthcare in January 2020. Before joining the organisation, she worked in retail and finance and as Group HR Director for Acorn Care and Education. Sharon leads a team of 28 people and her role covers recruitment, rewards and recognition, employee engagement and the HR business partner function. She believes that the ripple effect of your impact is much greater if you build an amazing atmosphere for people to work in. She also says that creating the right culture and a place where people want to work will help them deliver the best quality care to residents.

Phil Andrews, Senior Director of Property and Development

Phil joined Sunrise Senior Living UK and Gracewell Healthcare in October 2018. His role involves facilities management and capital expenditure for the existing homes, as well as the growth of the business through the development of new care homes. Phil’s career to date as solely been focused on development and construction through a variety of roles in commercial, design, development, and client relationship positions across various sectors. Having worked in the care sector for many years, it is a place where Phil takes real satisfaction and pride in creating wonderful environments for people to enjoy in their later years. Phil says he joined Sunrise and Gracewell as the brands are synonymous with luxury. He wanted to be part of a company that delivers high quality care and to be able to grow the business from within.

Visiting our homes: latest information

Due to the latest national restrictions, we continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis, following public health advice. We’ve a detailed set of criteria to inform when an individual home can be reopened safely to limited visiting either by families or existing residents. The majority of our homes are open for new residents.

How we’re keeping our care homes safe

At Sunrise Senior Living UK, the health and happiness of our residents is of the utmost importance. It’s why over 90% of our care homes are rated as Good or Outstanding by the CQC. That’s why we’ve put in place a range of rigorous measures to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection within our homes, and to protect the physical and emotional wellbeing of our residents and the team around them.
