Sunrise of Solihull Care Home Celebrates Four Weeks of Travelling the World

Residents and team members at Sunrise of Solihull care home are now over 4 weeks into their 12-week journey visiting new countries each week from the comfort of their care home.

Now, one month in, they have visited France, England, Italy, and Greece, celebrating each country by organising various activities and events. Residents have taken part in language lessons, virtual tours of famous landmarks, enjoyed local music, and experienced each country’s culinary delights as prepared by the care home’s dining team.

In their first week residents boarded the plane for a visit across the channel to France. Here they had the opportunity to attend a cheese and wine party, where they got to experience a wide degree of flavours and tastes. For dessert residents were offered some macarons to sample, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

The following week, they made it back home just in time to the UK to commemorate the Queen’s Birthday. In celebration, the residents settled down in the garden to enjoy some afternoon cream tea and scones in the surprising British sun. Residents were extremely happy to be back outside on the beautiful lawn.

Nevertheless, their visit home was short but sweet, as they were back on the plane the following week for a visit to Italy. Treated to a touch of Italian class, the residents at Sunrise of Solihull attended a masquerade lunch, equipped with their very own handmade masks.

Most recently, residents and team members took a short flight over the Mediterranean to Greece. Here everybody enjoyed plenty of Greek dancing, before finishing off their fun and exciting week with a big Greek themed lunch on the Friday.

One resident at Sunrise of Solihull commented on their enjoyment of the campaign so far, saying, “it has been really nice to wake up every Monday and find yourself in a new destination”, adding that, “they can’t wait to see what the team members have install for the remaining weeks ahead.”

Another resident iterated their love for the campaign so far: “I am really enjoying the Gardening Club that we relaunched during our trip back in the UK.”

For the remaining eight weeks, Sunrise of Solihull will go on to visit countries including South Africa, Mexico, China and India.

The extensive travel itinerary has been launched as part of Sunrise Senior Living UK’s #NewDawnNewDay campaign to encourage those who may be considering moving into a care home to take the step with a sense of reassurance in this new chapter of their lives.
