The catering team at Sunrise of Sonning care home have been revealed as finalists at this year’s Public Sector Catering Awards.
Shortlisted in the Care Catering Award category for ‘Catering Team of the Year Award’, the fantastic team have shown incredible commitment, performing exceptionally within their roles this past year.
Despite the challenges presented as a result of the pandemic, the team have continued to exceed expectations, demonstrating tremendous dedication towards maximising the health and wellbeing of their residents.
Every day the catering team at Sunrise of Sonning have continued to go above and beyond, always seeking to enhance the service provided to the residents, team members, and visitors.
A range of great ideas and delicious dishes have been served up, both individualised and for the benefit of all.
The judges were particularly impressed by the implementation of awareness wristbands which display any intolerances or allergies residents have to specific foods. The wristband system has eliminated the risk of wrong food delivery, improving safety levels and morale.
With all team members receiving face-to-face allergen training, and a food allergen board updated daily by the chef and checked by all carers and dining assistants, all are aware of allergens in the menu of the day. With residents assured, the success of this initiative has been reflected through an improvement in the general health of many residents.
In addition, the catering team is continually speaking with residents to stay updated on their likes and dislikes, respecting these choices, and improving the offering of their menus.
The team have also built a greenhouse outside the care home to grow vegetables and to promote outdoor activities for residents. The greenhouse is maintained by the catering and dining team who ensure it is clean and safe for the residents to go and visit.
The team also secured their position on the shortlist due to their continued commitment and compassion, regularly boosting morale of residents and team members during COVID-19 through special cakes and meals.
Sunrise of Sonning will discover if they’ve been successful in their category at an award ceremony set to take place on 9th September at the Hilton London Metropole.
Speaking of their Award shortlisting, Adriano Carvalho, the Dining Service Coordinator at the care home, said:
“All in the Sunrise of Sonning catering team are overjoyed to have been named as a finalist for this prestigious award. Over this past year, we’ve looked to go above and beyond for our residents, driven by a belief that dining is more than just food, but an experience that can lift hearts and minds even in the most difficult of times. To receive this recognition is a testament to the hard work of our team, and we look forward to discovering if we have been successful in our category at the awards ceremony later this year.”
