Sunrise of Esher Take Part in ‘Game On’ Challenge for The British Red Cross

Sunrise of Esher are taking part in The British Red Cross ‘Game On’ challenge, for the duration of the 17 days the Tokyo Olympics takes place, from 23rd July to the 8th August.

As part of the challenge, team members and residents will come together as one to cycle 10- kilometres-a-day, for 17 days.

To celebrate the opening of the games, the Care Home hosted an ‘Olympic afternoon’ in the garden, involving a drinks reception. Staff and residents were sensible to not over-indulge however, as they now look to cycle 170km between them over the course of the games.

Sunrise of Esher’s lofty goals are not limited to the exercise bike either, as they are targeting to raise £1,000 for The British Red Cross in completing the ‘Game On’ challenge. The popular British Charity is over 150 years old, and specialise in providing help to people in crisis, both in the UK and overseas.

Margaret, a resident at Sunrise of Esher, is excited for what the next 17 days has in store. “It’s a wonderful idea, not least because we are able to raise money for a great charity. I have an exercise bike in my room I use daily, so will certainly be doing my bit to cover the kilometres necessary!”

Joanna Perry, Director of Community Relations at Sunrise of Esher, said:

“Following on from our successful recent 12-week trip around the home, we are excited to take on yet another new challenge. To be able to raise money for one of our nominated charities, The British Red Cross, is fantastic. The atmosphere around our home now is exceptional, and we’re all looking forward to capturing the spirit of the Tokyo Olympics”.

The challenge so far has been a resounding success for the Community team, as team members Gabriela, Monika and Sophie, alongside Margaret, cycled over 30 kilometres alone on day one of the Games!
