“You can all make a difference by working in a care home”. Consider a career with Sunrise
Blog by Peter Funch, Head of Housekeeping and Maintenance at Sunrise of Fleet.
I started working at Sunrise of Fleet nine years ago. It is a fantastic place to work and over the years I have made many long lasting friendships and memories with staff, residents and family members.
I came to Sunrise after working in palliative care in the local community, but I wanted to move to working in a care home environment. I applied to work in Sunrise of Fleet’s Memory Care Neighbourhood for residents with memory impairments, and was delighted when I got the job.
After thoroughly enjoying my first job at Sunrise of Fleet, I decided to apply for the position of Head of Housekeeping. I was so happy to be given a managerial role, it really made me feel like my hard work at Sunrise of Fleet had been recognised and rewarded.
After seven years of creating a great housekeeping and laundry service with the help of a passionate and hardworking team, I then applied to be Head of Maintenance as well. I have now been Head of Housekeeping and Maintenance for almost a year.
I have formed some great bonds with residents. One former resident was Danish like me. We would often speak Danish and talk about traditions from our culture such as dancing around the Christmas tree every Christmas Eve.
Many of the staff in my team have been at Sunrise of Fleet since I started, we are truly like a family here. I am so proud to be a part of this incredible community.
