Keeping yourself busy is a great way to maintain your mental health. Here are our top tips for staying busy when self-isolating.
Write a diary to keep track of your thoughts, mood and inspiration:
Writing in a journal is something many find extremely cathartic, there is also a variety of ways to do this.
Some find writing a daily journal of things they are grateful for helps them remain positive during uncertain times. Others simply find pleasure in writing down their daily thoughts and activities to express themselves and even to look back on in the future.
Unleash your creative flair:
Art is a great form of self-expression, whether it be sketching, painting or doodling. Creating art is a great way to stimulate our minds and senses.
At Sunrise UK care homes, all art clubs are extremely popular amongst residents. Many residents who have never painted have found it extremely relaxing and enjoyable.
Moreover, it is a great way to learn a new hobby, or for some, to practice an old talent. Creating artistic pieces specifically for family members and friends can also be a lovely way to surprise them with something special.
Make a reading list to get through:
We all have books on our shelves we have been excited to get stuck into, or maybe a favourite book we have not read in a while. Reading is a perfect way to distract yourself from any negative thoughts and delve into a fictional world.
Setting up chats or phone calls with friends and family to discuss books you have read is a lovely way to keep connected with people and help those who may suffer from loneliness.
Learn to cook or improve your baking skills:
You can use a recipe book, a recipe you found online, or an old family recipe that reminds you of great memories.
You don’t need to cook anything overly complicated or that requires many ingredients, but cooking nice balanced healthy meals and some sweet treats will help to keep you busy.
It will also be a great way to impress your family and friends when you next see them with your new cooking skills.
Spring clean and organise your surroundings:
We all know a tidy home makes for a clear mind. When socially distancing it is important to keep your surroundings clean. Cleaning and organising can be great for decluttering your thoughts.
Stay connected to people:
Using technology, it is easier than ever to stay in contact with those closest to you. Ask for help setting up regular video/phone calls and make sure you are speaking to people as often as you need.
Also, voicing any concerns you have is incredibly important at this time.
