Dementia Awareness Week: Come & Join Us - Increase Your Awareness

Sunday 5th - Saturday 11th July 2009.
The UK's aging population is resulting in increasing cases of dementia. More and more adults are finding themselves in some way affected by its challenges. We want to make this a special week by sharing our experiences with others and to raise money for other organisations committed to helping seniors with memory loss. To follow are some of the events we are holding to raise awareness and much needed funds.

• Tuesday 7th July, 10:30am-2:00pm. 1940s Street Party. Come and join us on our lovely lawns and gardens to celebrate days gone by with costumes and fun from the 1940's. There will be a £2 entrance fee, to include cake and refreshments. Raffle to be held at 2pm with all proceeds to go to the Alzheimer's Society.
• Wednesday 8th July. 2pm-4pm. Information Seminar. For more than 25 years, Sunrise has tended to the care needs of seniors with memory loss. This has taught us valuable lessons, many of which we would like to share with you at this informative talk by Lynne Petty.

Summer Open House and Garden Party

Saturday 25th July, 10:00am-4:00pm

Seniors, families and carers are cordially invited to come along to our grand Sunrise Open House and Garden Party, being held at each of our 26 purpose built residences throughout the country during this weekend. This is your opportunity to find out more about our unique approach to senior care and experience the Sunrise difference. • Len & Betty's Tea Dance: 1st Monday of each month, 2pm-4pm. Next one to be held - Monday 6th July. Drop in and join in the fun. Popular old time dance favourites, in the Parlour.
• Giant Scrabble: 2nd Friday of each month, 3pm. Next one to be held - Friday 10th July. Try your hand at our communal super giant scrabble, mix in with the fun with our existing residents tea and cake provided.
  
• Parkinson's Society Discussion Group. 1st Thursday of each month. Next one to be held - Thursday 2nd July. All members are welcome! Call us for more information.

Sunrise of Westbourne is now able to offer Nursing Care!

What does this mean for our residents?
Sunrise of Westbourne will remain the same comfortable, homelike and enjoyable place to live. But now we are extending our care services so that additional nursing will be available 24 hours a day. It means that residents and families have the reassurance of knowing that if nursing care is required later, Sunrise can provide it.

The new registration is also an acknowledgment of our competency and expertise in caring. We have been participating in rigorous training to ensure that all residents receive the best assistance and care possible. But the really good news…As a result of our new registration it means that residents assessed to receive nursing care will be eligible for NHS Funded Nursing Care contributions. This is an amount of £106.30 per week paid as a contribution towards your weekly fees.

Sunrise of Westbourne Healthy Eating Award

Earlier this year Sunrise of Westbourne proudly attained the prestigious Bournemouth Heartbeat Gold Award from the Environmental Health & Consumer Services.

The Gold criteria necessitated Sunrise of Westbourne ensuring that more than 50% of its menu comprised of "healthy" eating options. Additionally all food-handling staff had to be fully food & hygiene trained and all dining areas entirely non-smoking.
