CQC Rates Sunrise 'Excellent' For Dementia Care

Our dementia services (Reminiscence) at Sunrise of Westbourne are rated ‘Excellent' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. The excellent rating means that we are able to demonstrate excellent and good practice consistent with the key lines of regulatory assessment (KLORA) and a sustained track record of delivering good performance and managing improvement.

The CQC considered that the Reminiscence Neighbourhood in particular "provides clean and well-maintained surroundings where the personal, health and social care needs of residents are met," and noted that a "planned programme of activities is in place and regular outings are arranged to local beauty spots and places of interest."

Sunrise Wins Regional Dementia Care Award

Apart from receiving a prestigious three-star “Excellent” rating from the Care Quality commission the manager of the ‘Reminiscence Neighbourhood’ at Sunrise of Westbourne, Lynn Petty, and her team have been selected as Winner of the Dementia Carer Award for the South West region, by the Great British Care Awards. It followed a nomination made by a family member of a resident.

The ‘Reminiscence Neighbourhood’ at Sunrise is a separate part of the building within which the emphasis is placed on helping those that have memory loss to remember and therefore to feel more comfortable and happy.

The building design, particular therapeutic features and the team of specialist carers all work together to create pleasant days for residents. Care of this kind requires patience, understanding and a real desire to help seniors. Often carers that have these qualities remain ‘unsung heroes’.

As a result of this award, the team has also been invited to attend the National Finals presented by Keith Chegwin and Fiona Phillips, where the ceremony to present this prestigious award will take place.

Sunrise of Westbourne Now Offers Nursing Care!

What does this mean for our residents?
Sunrise of Westbourne will remain the same comfortable, homelike and enjoyable place to live. But now we are extending our care services so that additional nursing will be available 24 hours a day. It means that residents and families have the reassurance of knowing that if nursing care is required later, Sunrise can provide it.

The new registration is also an acknowledgment of our competency and expertise in caring. We have been participating in rigorous training to ensure that all residents receive the best assistance and care possible. But the really good news…As a result of our new registration it means that residents assessed to receive nursing care will be eligible for NHS Funded Nursing Care contributions. This is an amount of £108.70 per week paid as a contribution towards your weekly fees.

Sunrise of Westbourne Healthy Eating Award

Earlier this year Sunrise of Westbourne proudly attained the prestigious Bournemouth Heartbeat Gold Award from the Environmental Health & Consumer Services.

The Gold criteria necessitated Sunrise of Westbourne ensuring that more than 50% of its menu comprised of "healthy" eating options. Additionally all food-handling staff had to be fully food & hygiene trained and all dining areas entirely non-smoking.
