Sunrise of Tettenhall Now Offering Nursing Care

What does it mean for our residents?
Sunrise of Tettenhall will remain the same comfortable, homelike and enjoyable place to live. But now we are extending our care services so that additional nursing will be available 24 hours a day. It means that residents and families have the reassurance of knowing that if nursing care is required later, Sunrise can provide it.

The new registration is also an acknowledgment of our competency and expertise in caring. We have been participating in rigorous training to ensure that all residents receive the best assistance and care possible. But the really good news…As a result of our new registration it means that residents assessed to receive nursing care will be eligible for NHS Funded Nursing Care contributions. This is an amount of £108.70 per week paid as a contribution towards your weekly fees.

Talk to us soon about the process to get an assessment made and we'll help to make it happen.

Singing Therapy To Help Memory Loss At Sunrise

It has taken the Government a considerable number of years to even start to formulate a policy that is implemented in our care system. The green shoots may be just showing... but for the last 25 years Sunrise has been quietly getting on with the task of providing exceptional care for seniors with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

The sessions will encourage residents, friends, family members and local Alzheimer’s groups to join in with songs from the 30’s and 40’s. Percussion instruments will also be introduced so they are hoping to ‘raise the roof’ with all the fun. Carrie Jahn, who is helping to organise the event at Sunrise commented, “Music therapy is an innovative and fun way to stimulate the memories of seniors that have symptoms of Dementia. Prompting memories is at the heart of our specialist dementia care at Sunrise and this is a great way to do just that, to have some fun together and also to support our friends in the wider community”.

Sunrise Senior Living believes that their approach to residential care for dementia sufferers, Reminiscence, is a more positive approach to the challenges of memory loss and dementia. In keeping with this, Sunrise of Tettenhall is launching a new programme, “Singing to Reminisce” which will be running weekly. Please contact us for details, dates and times on 01902 774100.

Considering Care For A Loved one?

To follow is an abridged piece written by a daughter of a Sunrise resident regarding her experience of Sunrise of Tettenhall...

Entrusting the care of a confused 89 year old to strangers is never going to be easy but when that person can no longer communicate their likes and dislikes, hopes or fears you are naturally going to be extra protective.  The time Carrie and Erika took out of their busy schedules to listen to me showed that here was a company who did indeed put the need of individuals at the heart of everything they do.

My mother was made to feel welcome from day one and each member of staff had taken the trouble to get to know a little about her so that to my mother it seemed that these people must be friends even though she could not remember their names.

They quickly won her trust and this played a large part in how easily she settled into her new home. She was made to feel that she mattered to them and belonged here, so much so that I now have to coax her out into the garden or the Bistro as she would much rather stay inside and keep an eye on what is going on.

It is hard to believe the change in her since she left her previous care home, no longer frightened that she is doing something wrong, she joins in activities, explores the Neighbourhood and is given the opportunity to feel useful by helping staff with little jobs.

The calm, relaxed yet purposeful atmosphere is only achieved by everyone working together as a team and I cannot thank the staff enough for what they do.

Seeing her as calm and settled as she was today when I waved goodbye is testament to all of this.  We had enjoyed our time together and both look forward to my next visit.

Having decided that this was what I wanted for my mother, the next question has to be ‘when my time comes, could I live here myself?’  My answer is ‘yes, I could’.
