“I love all of our residents. It makes my day to see them happy as I assist them – they genuinely appreciate the care and support they receive. Sunrise is a lovely place to work and my colleagues always help and support me when I need it.”
Gurmej, Lead Care Manager, Reminiscence Ground Floor
“During my 30-plus years in clinical nursing and management, I diversified into disability and senior care and completed a number of specialist courses in caring for people with dementia. I’ve enjoyed being able to share all these experiences through my work at Sunrise of Knowle – a vibrant and forward thinking community.
Dementia is a challenging condition for both those who have it and those around them – whether that’s relatives, friends or formal carers. Everyone at Sunrise strives to provide the very best support and care for all those affected by it.
I believe it is not only our duty but actually an honour, together with the families and friends of all living in our community, to treasure and celebrate our residents for all they have achieved and all that they are.”
Anne Atkinson, Senior Wellness Nurse, Reminiscence
“Quite simply, I love my job and the rewards that it brings me. I joined the Sunrise team in 2008, and have since really got to know our residents and their likes and dislikes. We’ve enjoyed some really fun themed days, new activities (like belly dancing, Tai-Chi and computer courses) and taken interesting minibus trips out.
My team and I work tirelessly to continually review our service, taking the preferences of existing and new residents into account.
There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the enjoyment our residents have each and every day, and hearing feedback from families on how we’ve made a positive difference to their loved one’s life.”
Dawn Sykes, Activities Co-ordinator
“Having worked in the catering industry for the last 40 years, I bring a wealth of experience to Sunrise. I’m responsible for not only producing nutritional, tasty meals for our residents, their families and friends, but also ensuring the menus are varied and interesting. I regularly sit down with residents to discuss different dishes to enable me to plan accordingly.
Myself and my team work extremely hard to meet the nutritional needs and wishes of a wide range of residents. Seeing the smiles on our residents’ faces when serving their traditional favourites and exciting alternatives is the most rewarding part of my role. It’s a wonderful experience.”
